POS kits bundle a printer, cash drawer and scanner with any of the above. Whichever you choose, you pick how you pay to get paid: nothing, or the lowest flat rate in the industry.
You sell away from a fixed counter, so the register has to travel with the sale.
Also worth a look: Square Register. Many full service restaurant setups run the two together.
Your shelf price is the card price. Customers who pay cash get 4% off at the register. Both prices show on the Square screen before they choose.
Both run on every Square terminal, point of sale and handheld. Pick one and sign up on Square in minutes.
Estimates based on the volume and rate you enter. Effective rate is total monthly fees divided by card volume. Actual results depend on card mix and debit share.
Every other company sells you their platform because it is their platform. We sell Square, Clover and Dejavoo, so we can afford to be straight about it. Open any card for the full side by side.
Because your counter is not an afterthought to your website.
If ninety percent of your revenue is online and you run a large catalog with apps, Shopify is a strong platform. Most of our merchants sell in person first.
Square vs ShopifyBecause your price should not depend on which reseller signed you.
We sell Clover too. If your business needs Clover's specific app or a Fiserv relationship, we will say so and set it up.
Square vs CloverBecause you should be live in days, not weeks, and run it yourself.
Lightspeed goes deeper on matrix inventory for very large multi store retailers. For most independent stores the depth is not worth the cost.
Square vs LightspeedBecause a statement you cannot read is not a good deal.
Very high volume merchants with a clean card mix can sometimes win on interchange plus. Bring us the statement and we will do the math.
Square vs HeartlandBecause your point of sale should not be discontinued.

For a flat, published rate with no monthly fee, no contract and no statement fees, yes. Many processors quote a lower headline rate, then add monthly minimums, PCI fees, batch fees and tiered surcharges. Once those are counted, effective rates of 3.5% or more are common. Square's rate is the rate you pay.
Yes. On any Square plan you can run 0% processing with a cash discount or a service charge. The ticket covers the fee and you keep the whole sale. Start on the flat rate and switch later if you like.

A person. Square offers a help center, an automated assistant and live chat on every plan, and phone support that depends on your plan: weekdays for the first 90 days on Free, weekdays on Plus, 24/7 on Premium. Your partner sits on top of that as a local contact who knows your setup, so you never start from zero.
You do, on Square. Square holds your account, runs the payments and pays you out. Your partner never touches your funds.
Square publishes one price for everyone and builds its own hardware and software, so what you see is what you pay. Clover pricing varies by who sells it, and many features come from third party apps with their own monthly fees. Clover can suit some full service restaurants and bars with specific needs. Tell us how you run and we will say which one fits, even if it is not Square.
Yes. Square for Restaurants handles floor plans, coursing, seat numbers, split checks, preauthorized bar tabs and automatic gratuity. Servers take orders and payment at the table on Square Handheld. The Square KDS app ($30 a month per device on Plus) routes tickets to the kitchen, and Square Kiosk adds self ordering.
Square for Retail scans or searches barcodes to build your catalog, tracks stock by location, sends low stock alerts, manages vendors and purchase orders, and prints barcode labels. The same item library runs your online store, so you sell the last one once.
Square supports integrated scales and weighted barcodes, adds bottle deposits automatically per item, and accepts EBT for SNAP eligible items. EBT is 1.8% + 5¢ on every plan, with the fee waived while the feature is in beta through fall 2026.
